THE DIVERSITY OF HEMP

When you think of hemp, what comes to mind? If you know your plants then there may be a few things that flood your hippocampus, but if you are like most folks then you probably don’t know all of the different things that hemp can be used for. Hemp is a variety of the cannabis sativa plant species that is grown specifically for the industrial uses of its derived products. It can be refined into a variety of commercial items including paper, clothing, biodegradable plastic, and can be pressed as in ingredient for human and animal consumption.

The quality of hemp paper is superior to tree-based paper for the reason that it will last hundreds of years without degrading and can be recycled many more times. Hemp made paper also requires fewer toxic chemicals during its manufacturing process. Hemp fibers that are used in clothing are stronger and softer than cotton and can last twice as long as items made with cotton. The eco-friendly option to normal plastic has been found with the cost-effective hemp plastic solution. It is biodegradable and can be used as an alternative for most uses of plastic.

Healthy Oilseeds has processed hempseed oil that can be used in cleaning supplies like soap, in dietary supplements and in cooking. Hempseed cake, or the remains after pressing hemp seeds, is also used by Healthy Oilseeds because of its great source of fiber for animal use. The production of hempseed protein powder is very popular as it contains all nine essential amino acids and is great for human consumption as a natural form of plant protein. There are endless opportunities from this diverse plant in so many industries and it is a very exciting thought to think what more can be discovered.

Owner, Roger Gussiaas, guarantees that all Healthy Oilseeds products are food grade Primus third party food safety certified whether that be for human or animal consumption.

At Healthy Oilseeds we are proud to be in the business of this versatile plant.
